RE: posting picture in my signature

What is the size of the picture you are trying to upload to your signature? Although not descriptive, most of the time, the error you are getting is because the picture exceeds one or more of the maximums.
For signatures:
Maximum width = 500 pixels
Maximum height = 100 pixels
Maximum file size = 30 KB

RE: Getting out of this MAC Stuff

LittleBill,
It was St. Augustine's quote, not my own. My undergraduate work was in math and physics; my graduate work was in math. (From reading the post, one could tell by my spelling of 'condemnation' that spelling and/or typing were not my majors.)
gestanton,
Although I have a queasy feeling about probablility and sadistics ... make that statistics, my nausea does not come so much from the math, but rather from the lack of understanding and how people, not statiticians, misue them.
Here is an example of lack of understanding:
A box contains two coins. One coin is heads on both sides and the other is heads on one side and tails on the other. One coin is selected at random from the box and the face of one side of that coin is observed. If the observed face is heads, what is the probability the other side is heads?
How many people do you think know the answer to that question and why?

RE: Getting out of this MAC Stuff

Vista market share grew much faster than MacIntel OS and MacIntel OS share share is only 6.51% compared to Vista's 20.45%.
OS market share
The good Christian should beware of mathematicians and all those who make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the spirit and confine man in the bonds of Hell. (St. Augustine)
Most certainly, St. Augustine included the black arts of statistics in his comdenation of mathematicians.
Using the same source as 8.1 Van, one can also see that, for the first time in memory, perhaps even in recorded history, Windows OS market share has fallen below 90%. One of these numbers would have everyone in Redmond smiling, while the other would have the opposite effect.

RE: how to post a picture

Pictures must be placed on a host site, before they can be inserted into a post. There are many different host sites.
Here is a tutorial that walks you through the steps of posting a picture, starting with placing the picture on a host site.
Posting Pictures Using TinyPic.Com For The Host Site
Give that a read. If you have more questions, please come back and post them here. That would help us improve the tutorial.

RE: Image Test...??

OH, OH, OH
Just one Tom, just the car and the 4 guys @ the El Passo gas station.
Do me a favour and put the image location for the one I can't see here as a url. It's a test of the wee differences with different posters.
TKX
:C
Here is the URL for the picture you can't see.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v162/WillieNunez/MyDeuceCoupeDixiescannedupsideup.jpg
Please copy it in the address field of a browser window and hit the Go button and see if it will open the picture. Then come back to the thread and determine if you can see the picture in the post.
Thanks,
Tom

RE: Image Test...??

Tom,.
The only pictures I see are the ones you have posted. I see no red x's or anything at all. I believe I once mentioned the problem I have with 80% or so of PhotoBucket hosted pics.
I suspected this was one of those and that I might just as well document it for you here.
I probably also said I believe I am not the only one with this problem.
:C
How many pictures do you see in my post? There are two. The one in the quote has the same URL as in Cloud Dancer's post.

RE: How far south have you gone?

Speaking of the "Darien Gap." I heard, or read, somewhere that the gap was left intentionally unfinished when the Pan American highway was being built. The US Government decided this would be a way to force all cattle being shipped from South America to have to be brought by ship, which meant they could all be checked for hoof and mouth and other diseases.
Anybody heard this and can confirm?
From this Wikipedia article
For decades, efforts have been made to remedy this missing link in the Pan-American highway. Planning efforts began in 1971 with the help of U.S. funding, but was halted in 1974 after concerns raised by environmentalists. Another effort to build the road began in 1992, but by 1994 a United Nations agency revealed that it would cause extensive environmental damage. There is evidence in favor of the argument that the Darién Gap has prevented the spread of diseased cattle into Central and North America, which have not seen foot and mouth disease since 1954, and at least since the 1970s this has been a substantial factor in preventing a road link through Darién Gap. Embera-Wounaan and Kuna Indians have also expressed concern that the road would bring about the potential erosion of their cultures.

RE: Image Test...??

This is the photo that is giving me heartburn. And, I believe you might've said, or someone said, it's due to the fact that it has that broad space of white on the right side.
With this post, I'm attempting the method of reduction that you explained today (from Photobucket) :
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v162/WillieNunez/MyDeuceCoupeDixiescannedupsideup.jpg width=640
Resizing the picture will do nothing for removing the white space. The white space be removed by cropping the picture. Here is the same picture as the one above after it has been cropped. It appears larger, because I didn't have to resize it at all to get keep it from exceeding the 640 pixel limit.

I'm sorry, but is there supposed to be an image visible in the above post?
:h
I see a picture of a 50-amp outlet in the post immediately above yours.

Definitely not evident as what you are testing. If we can be of help, ask a question. It would probably be better to start a new thread, if you do have questions.

RE: Image Test...??

If you click on the IMG Code URL and paste it into a post, it will look similar to

If I wanted to resize the picture for posting, I would click after the 'g' in '.jpg', type a space and then enter the width parameter to get something linke this.

Or, I could use the Direct Link URL and paste it into the message windows Image tool, http://www.rv.net/SharedContent/cfb/images/editortoolbar/image.gif. In the Image tool, I would put the value for the width parameter and leave the height parameter blank.
http://i37.tinypic.com/a6175.jpg
Please do not quote or copy this post. I have used a trick to produce the square brackets. The trick will fail with a quote or a copy.

RE: How far south have you gone?

The member to which Turtle-Toad refers is
Tango Dancer
with a space between the two words.
In December of 2006, he posted that they would be leaving for Central and South America during the first week of March, 2007. His last post on the form was in January, 2007.

RE: Smartphone?? Blackberry??

iphone, doesn't push email or sync anything with your desktop, completely worthless for real time business use
You are completely wrong Sir! It supports Push, IMAP, and POP email. It will also sync contacts and calendars with your desktop just fine. I use it for my business and I am also able to check my personal email accounts separately.
It will sync with Mac OR Windows just fine. Blackberry's had very limited Mac support until just recently.
J
He has already admitted that he was mistaken. Obviously, he hasn't kept up with the updates to the iPhone software.

RE: What happened to my signature?

Ok how do you do this, my picture in my signature has disappeared also. Any help appreciated.
To get a URL from a picture, right-click on the picture and select properites. Copy the Address: (URL) field. Care must be taken, in some instances, to copy the entire URL. The properties window will show only two lines; the actual URL could be more than that. Triple-clicking on the URL will select it all.
Here is the URL for your picture.
http://www.rv.net/SharedContent/cfb/memberphotos/20356096/personal/IMG_8077a.JPG
If it were me, I would reduce the height of the picture to 100 pixels (it is 118 now) and put the picture, instead of a link, into my signature.
